Tahltan Heritage Resources Environmental Assessment Team (THREAT)

The Tahltan Heritage Resources Environmental Assessment Team (THREAT) was established by the Tahltan Central Council in 2005.

THREAT was established due to the number of major projects in the territory proceeding through the provincial environmental assessment review process and the need for the Tahltan Nation to have a Tahltan technical team to effectively participate and protect Tahltan rights and interests through the reviews.

THREAT is a team of Tahltan members with leadership and expertise in culture and heritage, wildlife, fisheries, water, project design and operations, access, economics, and mineralogy.

THREAT works for the Tahltan Nation and communicates and seeks direction from Tahltan communities and Leadership. This communication is important as it is the direction THREAT uses to work towards ensuring the protection of our heritage, culture and resources.

Over time, THREAT has demonstrated to government and industry that it is a technically competent body that is able to protect our rights by asserting the requirement for better government policies and procedures that recognize and address the unique cultural identity of the Tahltan people.
